AN ASSESSMENT OF REALITY AND CHALLENGES OF STUDENTS HOSTELS IN KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY ANYIGBA

  ABSTRACT
Students’ hall of resident is one of the factors parent considered when searching for schools for their children, this is so because there are links between school environment and academic performances. The paper undertakes an assessment of occupiers satisfaction on the quality performance of selected hostels in Kogi State University in the view to determine occupiers’ satisfaction using quality performance criteria. Survey design was used for the study. A set of one hundred and seventy- six questionnaires was administered to respondents in the school hostel on a stratified sampling techniques. Descriptive statistics was used to analysis the data. Finding reveals that 62% of the respondents were satisfied with condition of water supply, 69% of the respondents reported unsatisfied with toilets and sanitary conditions of the hostel, while 94% of the respondents were satisfied with design and physical elements of the schools’ hostel, furthermore there is high cases of overcrowding in the students rooms in the hostel. The author recommends periodic maintenance and sanitation of the hostels public private partnership in hostel infrastructure provision in public universities was also advocated.
